  • Kyriakos Maniatis, European Commission: Kyriakos Maniatis is Principal Administrator in the Directorate General for Energy, European Commission. He is responsible for technical issues related to biofuels and bioenergy and manages the DG ENER demonstration component on advanced biofuels in the Commission's the 7th Framework Programme. He contributes accordingly to the legislative actions of the EC and to the European Industrial Bioenergy Initiative of the SET Plan and he is involved in the CEN standardisation work on liquid and gaseous biofuels. In June 2011 he initiated the Biofuels FlightPath for Aviation in close coordination with the aviation and biofuels sectors. Kyriakos also represents the European Commission in the Executive Committee of IEA Bioenergy Implementing Agreement and served as the ExCo Chairman in 2002, 2005-2007. He regularly organizes workshops and conferences on these subjects.
  • Vann Bush, GTI: Bush has 40 years of experience in energy technology development and demonstration. For the past 13 years he has overseen GTI’s research, development, and demonstration programs focused on increasing affordable and environmentally acceptable applications of all hydrocarbon energy resources.  The current portfolio of R&D programs includes optimizing the environmental performance and productivity of unconventional gas production, providing commercial design support for a biofuels production process, and proving CO2 capture and utilization technologies.  Other substantial ongoing efforts for low-carbon power and chemicals production include developing and proving gasification and partial oxidation technologies, pressurized oxy-combustion processes, compact hydrogen generation, and supercritical CO2 power cycle technologies. Before joining GTI, Mr. Bush was employed at Southern Research in various positions up to Vice President of the Environment & Energy Division.  There he managed and performed research projects from concept through pilot-scale to full-scale demonstrations in coal combustion, biomass co-firing, source and ambient emissions monitoring, emissions control systems, and technologies to mediate greenhouse gas emissions. Mr. Bush has undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Physics from the University of North Alabama, and an M.S. in Physics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
  • Ilkka Hannula, VTT: Hannula is a senior scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd. His research activities focus on identifying promising energy conversion pathways, technology strategies and policy measures suitable for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transportation and energy-intensive industries. His specific technology interests include carbon-neutral synthetic fuels, biomass gasification and the role of bioenergy in a low-emission energy system. He is an alumnus of the Energy Systems Analysis Group of Princeton University and Energy Policy Research Group of the University of Cambridge.
  • Vesa Helanti, Valmet: Sc. Helanti is senior product engineer in gasification and has worked at Valmet gasification since 2005. His main responsibilities are process and product specialist and project and customer support.
  • Thijs de Vries, Gasunie: Thijs de Vries is Project Manager for the Alkmaar SNG gasification project. A consortium consisting of ECN, Dahlman, Gasunie and PDENH plan to start construction of this innovative gasification project in 2017. Thijs works at Gasunie New Energy as Business Developer, where he develops different projects in the field of sustainable energy.
  • Rolf Ljunggren, Cortus: Rolf Ljunggren is the founder and CEO of Cortus. He was born in 1963 and is a MSc in Metals and Metallurgy from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Mr. Ljunggren has a background in business and technology. He has worked in industrial gases (AGA & Linde Gas) with applications and supply solutions for thirteen years in the Nordic region as well as internationally. For eight years he worked in the Nordic steel industry with energy optimization for electric arc furnaces and pioneered in post combustion. He also introduced oxyfuel technology in reheating furnaces. He spent five years in “on-site supply” for nitrogen, hydrogen and oxygen plants at customer sites and has worked with management, sales and development in industrial automation (Invensys Group), procurement and services.
  • Niclas Davidsson, Meva Energy: Niclas Davidsson is CEO of Meva Energy. He isa business developer and manager who most recently has been VP Business Developmener at Meva Energy. Before that he worked as VP Business Development, responsible for the CHP segment at Cleanenergy, another R&D focused venture company within the renewable energy industry. Niclas has also been working as sales manager and consultant within the IP consultancy Awapatent and as management consultant at Accenture. Niclas holds an MSc. of Industrial Engineering and Management from Chalmers.
  • Bernd Zimmerlin, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology: Bernd Zimmerlin is the head of the department Energy Laboratories at the Institute of Technical Chemistry at the KIT. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD from the University of Karlsruhe. Bernd Zimmerlin has over 25 years of experience from work in different research areas within thermal waste treatment.
  • Reinhard Rauch, Technical University Vienna: Reinhard Rauch is senior researcher at the Institute of Chemical Engineering at University of Technology in Vienna since 2000. Dr. Rauch is working since 1995 in the area biomass gasification, gas cleaning and analysis. He finished his PhD in 2000 in the area “production of synthesis gas from biomass” and specialized in the last years on FT synthesis, synthesis of mixed alcohols, production of BioSNG and hydrogen. Dr. Rauch is also representative of Austria in IEA Bioenergy Task33 Thermal Gasification. In parallel to his activities at TU Vienna, Dr. Rauch is Area Manager in the Centre of Excellence Bioenergy2020+ and there responsible for the area “Biomass Gasification Systems”.
  • Karoline Alvånger, Energikontor Sydost: Energikontor Sydost is a member organization with members as municipalities and regions in the south east of Sweden. Energikontor Sydost works with partnership and development projects on local, reginal, national and European level and has since 1999 participated and coordinated in hundreds of projects. All these projects have aimed to increase energy efficiency in different sectors in our society.
  • Michel Chornet, Enerkem: Michel Chornet joined Enerkem in 2011 as Director, Technology Development. From January 2013 to December 2014, he was Plant Manager at Enerkem Alberta Biofuels, overseeing construction, operational readiness and start-up of Enerkem’s first full-scale commercial facility in Edmonton, Alberta. He joined the company’s executive team in January 2015. Chornet has 19 years of experience in process development, technology commercialization, plant start-ups, performance and growth management as well as R&D. He has worked in both small enterprises and multinationals in the energy, chemical and renewable sectors with Shell Canada’s exploration and production operations in Calgary, H-Power Canada and PTT Poly Canada. In 2007, Mr. Chornet co-founded Fractal Systems where he held the position of Vice President, Engineering and Technology, overseeing the development and commercialization of novel upgrading processes.
  • Tage Meltofte, Skive Fjernverme: Tage Meltofte is CEO of the privately owned CPH plant Skive Fjernvarme. Tage Meltofte has been member of the board of Skive Fjernvarme during the period from 2003 to 2011 after which he in 2011 was assigned CEO. Tage has an education as Marine Engineer and has throughout his professional life had several leading positions in larger industries in Denmark.
  • Björn Gillberg, VärmlandsMetanol: Gillberg is a chemist and legal expert. He is the founder and CEO of VärmlandsMetanol. He has been an outspoken advocate of gasification technology for production of biomethanol sine the 70-ties. Dr. Gillberg is also the CEO of and founder of Miljöcentrum (Environment Center) in 1971. The Center is well known for his successful legal actions against polluting industries on behalf of environmental victims. The lawsuits have improved Swedish environmental legislation. Dr. Gillberg has successfully acted as Environmental Controller for two of the largest construction projects ever carried out in Scandinavia, such as the SEK 17 billion Öresunds Bridge between Sweden and Denmark, and the SEK 9 billion City Tunnel project in Malmö. Dr. Gillberg has served as an advisor to different European governments and corporations. He has received several honorary awards for his long lasting service to the environment such as the IKEA stitching foundation prize. In 1991 he was elected to the UN 500 Global Roll of Honour and in 1999 he received an honorary doctorate at Lund University, Sweden.
  • Malin Hedenskog, Göteborg Energi: Malin Hedenskog, Operations Manager at the GoBiGas plant, Göteborg Energi AB, has in the past ten years been engaged in the development and commercialization of the GoBiGas project. She graduated in 1989 with a M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and has 25 years’ experience of process design, engineering, construction and operation of combustion and gasification in fluidized beds.
  • Carl-Erik Grip, Luleå Technical University: Carl-Erik Grip is a Guest professor at the division of Energy Science at Luleå Technical University. He received his Master of Science from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm in 1966, and his Technologie licentiate in 1971, followed by a PhD in 1998 from Luleå Technical University. Carl-Erik was previously Adjunct professor, 2003-2009, at LTU division Energy Science. He worked in industry; 1966-1971 MEFOS Luleå research engineer, 1971-2007 SSAB Tunnplåt AB (previously NJA): Different positions mainly as R&D manager (5-35 coworkers) or staff position. Retired end of June 2007. Continued as consultant 2007-2009. He is also a reservist army captain, presently retired.
