Hydropower and Nuclear power

Hydropower and nuclear power are two major energy sources in Nordic electric power system. Hydropower alone generates almost half of the Swedish electricity and is an has important flexibility properties when there are fluctuations in the demand for electricity. The nuclear powerplants need to be able to run safely for at least 50 years, which poses a number of challenges.

Energiforsk’s research contributes to safer, more efficient and profitable hydropower – an important part of the  electric power system in the long run. We follow developments in the research area of nuclear power to monitor what consequences and possibilities nuclear power have in Sweden as well as the other Nordic countries
